We were excited to hold the first STS para shooting event on Saturday 22 March at Napier University Sports Centre in Edinburgh. This took the form of a 10m air pistol and rifle Open Meeting shot on electronic targets plus a vision impaired competition shot on paper targets.
There were no finals in the Open Meeting but since many of the athletes had never taken part in competitions before, a “mock” final was held to give competitors the experience and help to understand how a final was run.
Following a couple of late cancellations, there were a total of 19 athletes on the day travelling from as far as Wales in the South and Aberdeen in the North including many entries from Sight Scotland Veterans in Ayrshire. We were delighted to welcome all of you.
Th enthusiasm of the athletes meant this was a very friendly event but with fierce competition between in each of the disciplines taking part!
Our Sight Scotland Veterans brought their own range and equipment that they regularly use and took part in a separate competition on paper targets.
The disciplines and categories shot on the day were :
Pistol
P1
P2
Rifle
R1
R4
R5
VI - P (electronic targets)
VI - S (paper targets)
Thank you to all the athletes who came and took part and who gave such valuable feedback which will help in planning our next para event. Plus a very special thank you to the wonderful volunteers who made this first para event a success.
We are already planning our next para event and hope to see you then.
