Scotland had a strong showing at the Welsh Open which took place from 13-15 October 2017 at the Sport Wales National Centre in Cardiff. The competition translated into 11 medals for Scotland in a very enjoyable three days of shooting, at an impeccably run shooting event which was well attended and ran without a hiccup, many thanks to the Welsh Airgun Association!

The conditions were very hot in the main hall as it was last year which was challenging, having come down from a cold Scotland, but the Finals hall was much better, which was where it counted for Scotland, and was where the Pistol shooters had a definite presence.

In the Fridays shooting with the juniors, Aedan Evans won Silver on the first day of shooting, missing gold by only .1!

This was followed by Katie Knowles with Gold, winning with a dominating 7.8 points, with Emilia Faulkner just missing up on a medal with 4th place and Kyla Dodd in 5th.

Jess Liddon narrowly missed out on a medal coming out in 4th place, with Caroline Brownlie in 5th.

In the men’s, Nick Pye won Gold with a lead over the competition of 5.4 points, with Alan Goodall in 5th place.

Saturday saw Aedan again winning, this time a gold and a comfortable lead of 2.8 points over the opposition. This was followed by Katie with a bronze medal and Emilia in 5th place. Jess scored a silver medal with Caroline coming in 6th place.

That left Sunday, with Scotland represented by Katie taking Bronze in the Junior woman final, and in the Junior men by Andrew Walker, who shot well to finish in 5th. His dad bought him a brand new Steyr Evo at the event so looking forward to seeing him shooting it in the future!

On to the Ladies and this saw Jess taking Silver in a close final with Caroline taking bronze.

In the men Nick again won gold, this time with a score difference of just 0.1!
