Scottish Target Shooting (STS) is delighted to announce the appointment of Jennifer Ross (previously McIntosh) as our Performance and Pathways Manager. Jennifer announced her retirement as an athlete on the programme following the World Championships in September, ending her time on the programme as one of Scotland’s most successful athletes, so she can start this new chapter in the sport.
The appointment of someone with Jennifer’s credentials and credibility is a massive asset to STS, as expressed by STS Chair, Angus Loudon: “While we were very sorry to hear about Jennifer’s retirement from international shooting, we are exceptionally pleased that we have been able to keep her within the sport so we can benefit from her experience and knowledge of competing at the highest level. With the performance programme returning to STS this year, we look forward to working with Jennifer as we move the programme forward, building on the success (and medals) of the programme from previous year.”
Jennifer is equally excited about the opportunity, stating: “Over the years this sport has given me a huge amount and I am grateful to both STS and sportscotland for the opportunity to give back in this way. The programme has already achieved an enormous amount and I’m excited to be part of this new chapter. We have some young and exciting talent coming through and I look forward to supporting the athletes on their journeys.”
The clear priority for the role over the short term is transitioning the programme across to STS, embedding it within the organisation, providing support to athletes and coaches and clarity around the future direction of the structure.
Beyond this, STS is excited to give Jennifer a wider remit to work to develop the pathways sitting beneath the programme so we can improve the identification and development of talent from an earlier age and stage in an athlete’s career. Although this will take time to develop, it will pay dividends for the life of the sport and continued success of Scottish shooters in Olympic and Commonwealth Games to come.
Jennifer started with STS on Monday 8th October with a contract for working a few days each week and will manage a number of successful athletes, including David McMath, Gold Medallist at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Double Trap (Shotgun) and 50m Prone Rifle World Champion, Seonaid McIntosh, who also finished 4th at the World Championships in the 50m 3P Rifle event, securing a quota place for the Olympics Games in Tokyo in 2020.
