2024 Junior International Event - Pistol Day 1 Report

2024 Junior International - Pistol

Day 1 : Monday 5th August Report

This week is the week of the GB Junior International Shooting Competition at The Lord Roberts Centre, Bisley from Monday 5th to Thursday 8the August 2024.

There were no competitions on the Monday morning, but Equipment Control was available and the ranges were open for some practice - mainly to check that no rifles or pistols had been damaged in transit.

Emilia Faulkner, only just back from medal success in the Nordic Junior Championships in Denmark, found she had a pistol that would only dry fire.

Subsequent investigation by Mr Lacey discovered a broken regulator. Fortunately, Emilia was able to borrow an air pistol and compete in a later detail.

Whilst this was happening, Bruce and Penny Flett were taking part in Target Sprint.

Starting with hitting all 5 knock down targets successfully then running, then shooting again, then running again, Penny achieved 2nd equal place in the Women’s race, and the team of herself, brother Bruce and Lewis Dillon from Highland came 2nd overall.

Penny and Bruce then had a short recovery break before shooting Sporter 3P in the air range, which was uncomfortably warm by this time.

The benefit of Sporter, is that no shooting boots, shooting trousers or shooting jackets are allowed, so they weren’t as hot as they might have been.

This was their first Sporter 3P competition – sighting then 20 match shots in the kneeling position on a table. Then a move to a slightly higher table for sighters and 20 shots prone, finishing with sighters and 20 shots standing.

They did well for their first competition - but they were both very glad to finish!
