Following the consultation issued by the Home Office on 14th October 2017 regarding New Legislation on Offensive and Dangerous Weapons, Scottish Target Shooting (STS), submitted a response on 8th December 2017 on behalf of its individual and club members to a single part of that Consultation, namely:
Proposal H: Prohibit.50 calibre ‘materiel destruction’ rifles and rapid firing rifles under section 5 of the Firearms Act 1968 Q8. Do you agree that we should prohibit these specific weapon types under section 5 of the Firearms Act 1968?
Scottish Target Shooting stated that it strongly disagrees with the proposal that the Government should prohibit these specific types of firearm under section 5 of the Firearms Act 1968, and submitted a response to the consultation outlining our reasoning in opposing such measures.
While some of the details vary and some additional comments have been made, STS supported and followed the response submitted by the NRA to portray a united front by shooting organisations across the UK. To this end, the response by STS has also been shared with British Shooting, the NRA and ICFRA to raise awareness.
