DCMS sport team has also compiled a non-exhaustive list of links to some of the most relevant guidance for sports organisations, based on discussions with the sector over previous months. Some of this guidance has been recently updated, so they would suggest taking another look if you haven’t accessed the links for some time.
STS is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for the 2019-20 Performance Programme. Athletes currently not on the programme are able to apply using the link in this article which will take them to the selection policy and online application form. Existing athletes will be contacted by the Performance & Pathways Manager. Applicatons from all athletes must be submitted by 15 September.
The introduction of statutory guidance is designed to improve consistency across the UK in police firearms licensing. The draft guidance sets out the checks that should be made, the weight to be given to the evidence and the factors that need to be taken into account. The consultation started on 23rd July and will remain open for eight weeks, finishing on 17 September 2019.
STS is pleased to confirm details for its rescheduled Target Shooting Coaching Conference, which will now take place on Saturday 5 October at Perth College. The conference open to coaches from across the UK, with STS members getting a 25% discounted delegate rate and STS junior members getting 50% off. The day will focus on the Olympic disciplines and features a mix of sport specific and generic workshops with the ambition of stimulating some exciting discussions and the sharing of ideas and good practice. Birmingham 2022 organisers and the CGF Executive Board have announced the additional sports selected for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, and shooting sports have not been included with both target shooting and archery missing out. Instead, the optional sports of Beach Volleyball, Women's Cricket and Para Table Tennis have been added.
STS is delighted to confirm the appointment of Jennifer Ross to the STS staffing team in the role of Performance & Pathways Manager. Jennifer previously carried out the role on a contracted basis but with support from sportscotland secured for the next 2 years, STS made this an employed position and is delighted to confirm Jennifer’s appointment to continue the good work already underway.
At the start of the month, STS announced that it will be holding it’s first Coaching Conference on Saturday 25 May. bringing shooting specific topics and discussion opportunities to coaches in the sport. Following feedback from the shooting community and further reflection, it has been decided that this event should be postponed.

The 2019 STS AGM will take place at 12.15 on Saturday 27th April at Caledonia House, 1 Redheughs Rigg, Edinburgh, EH12 9DQ with a session from Police Scotland beforehand. Included below is the form for members to state if they can attend on the day, submit questions for Police Scotland and submit a Proxy Vote if they are unable to attend.
Scottish Target Shooting is sad to announce that current Chair, Angus Loudon (pictured on the right at the Long Range competition), is set to stand down on completion of his 4 year term at the 2019 AGM. Recruitment for a new Chair will begin immediately but Angus has confirmed that he will remain in place until a new Chair can be found. Angus is stepping down for personal reasons but has very much enjoyed his time with STS and wishes all its members, volunteers and staff all the best for the future.
